Herblore EXP Quest Rewards

Herblore is the skill in RuneScape that allows you to make potions, strengthen your abilities, cure your ailments, or poison your weaponry. Before you are able to start this skill, you must complete the Druidic Ritual Quest. After you complete that quest you'll be able to clean grimy guam leaves and mix attack potions!

Obtaining Herbs

Herblore is, essentially, creating potions. Before you make any kind of potion, you'll need a herb of some sort. There are various ways to obtain herbs.

The most efficient way to obtain herbs is by killing monsters that have a high drop-rate of herbs. The best NPCs to kill are chaos druids - they can be found in following places:

  • Edgeville Dungeon, Wilderness Section

  • Taverley Dungeon

  • Chaos Druid Tower, just North of Ardougne next to King Lanthas' Training Camp (46 Thieving required to enter)

  • Yanille Dungeon (More infomoration below)

Various other monsters drop herbs, but none so often as Chaos Druids; regular Druids also work, found in Taverley. You can also grow your own herbs by using the Farming Skill, or, of course, you can buy some off of other players.

Herb Information

Before you can use your herbs, they will need cleaned, seeing as how when you obtain them they will probably be grimy. The process of cleaning herbs is quite simple. You hover your mouse over the grimy herb in your inventory and click it.

Vial Information

The next step of the process is to use the clean herb with a water-filled vial. To obtain vials - you can make them by using a glassblowing pipe on molten glass, but a crafting level of 33 is required. After you have created the vial you will have to use it on a sink or fountain to fill it with water.
Alternatively, you may purchase vials - which is much easier. Popular locations to obtain vials are shown int he table below.

Coconut Milk Potions: Stronger Weapon Poisons

The following weapon poisons are oddities in the Herblore Skill as they are the only potions that do not use vials of water as the base ingredient. You need a vial of coconut milk instead of vials of water to begin these potions.

How to obtain Coconuts: The only way to obtain these is by growing a Palm Tree in a Fruit Tree Patch and picking coconuts when it's fully grown, a farming level of 68 is required to grow Palm Trees.

How to obtain Coconut Milk: Use a hammer on a Coconut to smash it open. Then use the smashed coconut on an empty vial to get a vial of Coconut Milk.

Note: Coconut, Coconut Shells with Coconut Milk, and Coconut Shells that have no milk are tradeable, whilst Vials of Coconut Milk are untradeable

Barbarian Herblore

The barbarians realised that while potions are very useful, it takes up valuable food space that they could be using to save their lives. Thus, they discovered a way to make potions not only give special effects, but heal as well. See the Barbarian Training page for more info.

Obtaining Second Ingredients

Now that you know that you need second ingredients to complete your potions - You need to know where to find them.

The Yanille Dungeon

The Yanille Dungeon is the ideal place to gather materials for herblore, you can find it obviously near and inside Yanille.
There's two entrances to the dungeon, North of the city and inside a building near the Bank inside the city.
To enter the Dungeon north of Yanille, you will need a weapon or knife to slash through the webs. It is recommended that you bring antipoisons.
To enter the Dungeon in the city, just enter it but you will need to bring a lockpick along with you.

Once inside there will be a ledge to the next part of the Dungeon. To pass this obstacle you will need level 40 Agility. If you fail this obstacle you will fall into a pit of poisonous spiders - Run up the stairs if you do.

In this area you will find Chaos Druid Warriors, an obstacle pipe and monkey bars. Chaos Druid Warriors are great for herbs and drop some secondary ingredients as well.

Through the obstacle pipe which a level of 49 agility is required, you will find Skeletons which drop herbs not as commonly as Chaos Druid Warriors or Chaos Druids but drop them semi-commonly. There is herring spawn in here which heals five hitpoints and a chest that is explained below

Next over the Monkey Bars which require level 57 agility, are a bunch of Chaos Druids, an exit and stairs. If you fail this obstacle you will fall into a pit of poisonous spiders - Run up the stairs if you do. Chaos Druids are ideal place to gather herbs and they also drop water-filled vials and snape grass rarely. The exit will lead to stairs to the city of Yanille which you can use as a bank.

Alternatively to get to this area with Chaos Druids, you may go through the Buidling in Yanille near the bank. You will need a thieving level of 82 and a lockpick to get pick the look on the door into the dungeon though.

Salarin the Twisted

Well, through the hallway past the Chaos Druids there are stairs.
Once you go through them you will find a lockpick spawn and a Pile of rubble.

To climb up the Pile of Rubble you will need an agility level of 67. Once you are up there, you will be in a short narrow path. At the start of it you will find Sigbert who will hint you about who you are about to fight, Salarin the Twisted. There are also Regular Chaos Druids around Salarin the Twisted. Salarin the Twisted is a strong Chaos Druid with a humorous weakness and the key to raising Herblore very fast.

Salarin the Twisted cannot be damaged by regular attacks. The only attacks that damage him are Strike Spells and Magic Dart as they are the only spells that use mind runes and his only weakness as Sigbert hinted. Salarin the Twisted drops herbs, some second ingredients, water runes and his main drop his an uncommon drop called the Sinister Key, which is the only way to obtain the Torstol herb made to use the Zamorak Potion.

In the area of the Dungeon with the Skeletons and the Herring spawn that was mentioned before, you will find a chest. If you use the key on the chest you will be poisoned and recieve 9 grimy herbs: 2 Harralander, 3 Ranarr Weed, 1 Irit Leaf, 1 Avantoe, 1 Kwuarm and 1 Tortsol.

Tips for Herblore

The Greenman's Ale boosts Herblore temporarily by one level; it can be bought from the Bar in Yanille, and could help you out while you're making potions.

Vials are a major part of Herblore - you need them for potions, right? The Ardougne Adventurer's Shop stocks 500 vials, which is more than any other shop in RuneScape. However, it is very popular and often doesn't have very many. You can test your luck and attempt to purchase Vials there however. If Lady Luck is with you, then you can call yourself the owner of a couple hundred Vials.

Extra Herblore Info

There are some other, extra things that you should know about while raising herblore:

Cape of Accomplishment

The ultimate reward for getting level 99 Herblore is not only the great ability you will have in the skill, but the Cape of Accomplishment that you will have the oppurtunity to purchase. For more information on Capes of Accomplishment, see the Skill Capes page.
